Last week was truly one of learning and discovery. I was able to create a draft of my resume, complete my second research assessment, and start thinking about a topic of interest to explore this week. While researching, I was given the opportunity to become familiar with something I was always a little scared of- navigating databases. As I spent time looking for scholarly articles that would be of interest to me, I started to become more confident operating with different database platforms and became accustomed to the general layout. It is important to be adept with using databases as they are tools I will need to work with both in ISM and other courses, especially as I pursue higher education. The time spent perusing different articles certainly paid off as I came across a paper on Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) that offered me a good lens into the neurological disorder and included numerous aspects that further expanded my knowledge on the subject. Alzheimer’s Disease is a condition of growing concern, considering that it affects a substantial number in the aging population and is currently lacking a cure. I learned lots about the genetic factors that can increase susceptibility of acquiring AD and understood the biological concepts behind the physical symptoms. I was very lucky to come across an informative article that cultivated my interest in the field of neuroscience.

In addition to this, I was also able to apply my knowledge of personal branding to successfully piece together a professional dress that will make me look and feel my best. Having proper attire will be crucial as I go forth and interview professionals in the upcoming weeks.
Overall, this past week was very productive and one that taught me many things. This week, my goals are to continue exploring topics in my field, produce a final copy of a resume that reflects my experiences and aspirations, and to successfully contact professionals in my field of study. I will practice refining my cold calling skills and hopefully, be able to schedule at least two interviews with potential mentors.
