11/3-11/9

Last week in ISM, I spent a good portion of my time learning about how Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) can specifically create physical problems for patients. I came across an interesting study that observed the association between frontal lobe function and the risk of hip fracture in patients with AD. The results of the observational study that were detailed in the research article offered significant evidence of how AD impacts the skeletal system through the degeneration of the nervous system. I intend to continue exploring other studies that prove, with strong data, the impacts of AD on other systems of the body. Next week, for my research assessment, I hope to be similarly successful as I continue this investigation.

Additionally, I prepared my research presentation by putting together everything I had learned from both my interview and research assessments thus far. Producing an outline of my speech was one of the main steps I took to adequately feel ready for my upcoming presentation. This speech will serve as an opportunity to showcase the technical knowledge I have obtained through my professional and presentational skills. More importantly, it will be a chance to share, with my fellow ISM peers, everything that I have learned and the journey that I have taken. Thus, there is pressure to do well, but I will channel it to do the best I can and not fall victim to any anxieties. My primary focus for this week is to make sure I deliver an organized speech and also to produce a research assessment that further enhances my understanding of Alzheimer’s.
